With a deep love for his work and a compassionate, patient-centered approach to medicine, Alan Sandberg, MD, has come to be well-loved by both his patients and colleagues alike. Dr. Sandberg is proud to be a part of the Digestive Disease Care team serving the Long Island community of Lake Success, New York.
"The technical skills I've acquired performing colonoscopy and endoscopy for over 30 years is just one of the many skills required for comprehensive patient care," Dr. Sandberg said. "The greatest satisfaction I get as a physician is taking the time to know my patients as people. Behind every patient is a person—with real fears and anxieties, families, jobs, and multiple other facets of their lives. Without knowing the person, you cannot fully heal the patient. I want each of my patients to feel that I treated them as I would want my family and loved ones to be treated."
Dr. Sandberg knew from a young age that medicine was the right calling for him. He attended medical school at the State University of New York at Stony Brook before moving on to complete his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York. After his residency, Dr. Sandberg stayed at Long Island Jewish Medical Center to complete his fellowship training in Gastroenterology.
Dr. Sandberg is board certified in Gastroenterology and Hepatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and he is also a proud member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Gastroenterology Association. Understanding that getting to know his patients on a personal level is vital for true healing to take place, Dr. Sandberg takes ample time to speak with his patients and learn their unique stories.
In his free time, Dr. Sandberg enjoys scuba diving, underwater photography, the outdoors, mystery novels, and spending time with his family.
